Correction and Retraction Policy

Correction and Retraction Policy

1. General Provisions

Jurnal Talenta Sipil is committed to maintaining the trust of the academic and professional community by applying a correction and retraction policy to research articles and scholarly reviews published in the field of civil engineering. This policy is adopted from and refers to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, jointly issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of scholarly publications.

2. Policy Objectives

This policy is established to:

  • Address errors or breaches of publication ethics in published research articles and scholarly reviews.
  • Provide readers with transparent and accurate information about any changes, corrections, or retractions made by the editorial team.
  • Safeguard the integrity of the scholarly literature in civil engineering by applying fair, objective, accurate, and accountable procedures in accordance with publication ethics guidelines.

3. Corrections

Definition

A correction is made to rectify an error in a published article that does not affect the substance, main results, or conclusions of the reported research.

Types of Corrections

  • Erratum: A correction of an error made by the publisher or the editorial team, such as spelling errors, errors in authors’ names or institutional affiliations, or technical errors in the publication format.
  • Corrigendum: A correction of an error made by the authors, such as errors in non-critical data, in the description of methods, or in additional details that do not affect the main results or conclusions of the research.

Correction Procedure

  1. Authors, readers, or editors report the error, with clear supporting evidence, to the journal’s official editorial email address.
  2. The editorial team will verify the report and consult the authors to confirm the error.
  3. If a correction is required, the editorial team will publish a correction notice in the next issue and link it to the original article.

Implementation of Corrections

Corrections will be clearly indicated on the journal’s website and in the PDF file of the original article, together with a description of the changes made.

4. Retractions

Definition

A retraction is made to address serious violations, such as breaches of publication ethics, the reporting of research that was never conducted, or significant errors that undermine the validity of the research findings.

Grounds for Retraction

An article may be retracted on the basis of one or more of the following:

  • Plagiarism or duplicate publication that violates academic integrity.
  • Fabrication or manipulation of research data, whether intentional or unintentional, that affects the validity of the research findings.
  • Reporting of research results that do not reflect the facts, such as data, tests, or fieldwork that were never actually carried out.
  • Copyright infringement or breach of privacy, including the use of data, images, or participants’ information without valid permission.
  • Breaches of research or publication ethics, such as conducting research without ethical approval, involving participants without their consent, or listing authors without the consent of all contributors.

Retraction Procedure

  1. Reporting: Violations may be reported by readers, authors, or institutions to the official email address of Jurnal Talenta Sipil.
  2. Investigation: The editorial team will form an investigation team consisting of editors and reviewers and, where necessary, external experts or relevant third parties.
  3. Authors’ Right of Reply: The authors will be given the opportunity to provide a written clarification regarding the report.
  4. Decision: Based on the results of the investigation, the Editor-in-Chief will decide whether the article should be retracted.
  5. Communication with the Authors’ Institutions: In cases of serious misconduct, the authors’ affiliated institutions will be notified.

Implementation of Retractions

The retracted article will remain available on the journal’s website but will be clearly marked as “Retracted”. The retraction notice will include:

  • The title of the article.
  • The names of the authors.
  • The reason for the retraction (e.g., plagiarism or data manipulation).
  • The date of the retraction.

5. Article Replacement

If a retracted article contains important information about the methods, findings, or results of the research, the authors may submit a replacement article.

The replacement article must correct the substantial errors contained in the original article without repeating the same violations or mistakes. It will be processed as a new submission and must undergo the full peer review process in accordance with the editorial policies of Jurnal Talenta Sipil.

If the replacement article is accepted for publication, it will be published with a clear statement that it replaces the previously retracted article, and the two articles will be cross-linked to ensure the transparency and integrity of the scholarly record.

6. Reporting and Complaints Mechanism

  • Readers, authors, or other parties who discover errors or violations may report them via email to [journal email address].
  • All reports will be handled with strict confidentiality and free from conflicts of interest.

7. Communication and Transparency

  • All corrections and retractions will be announced in a dedicated section of the journal’s website and in the latest issue of the journal.
  • The correction and retraction process will be fully documented to ensure transparency.

This policy is established to maintain the integrity, transparency, and credibility of Jurnal Talenta Sipil as a scholarly journal committed to the standards of ethics, professionalism, and academic responsibility in publishing research articles and scholarly reviews in the field of civil engineering.
