Conflict of Interest Policy

Conflict of Interest Policy

Jurnal Talenta Sipil is committed to ensuring transparency, objectivity, and integrity throughout the research and scholarly publication process. All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, or institutional relationships that could influence, or could reasonably be perceived to influence, their judgments or decisions.

A. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest arises when personal, financial, professional, academic, or institutional interests may improperly influence an individual’s responsibilities in conducting, reviewing, editing, or publishing scientific research in Jurnal Talenta Sipil.

The existence of a conflict of interest does not necessarily indicate wrongdoing. However, failure to disclose a relevant conflict of interest may reduce the transparency and credibility of the publication process.

Jurnal Talenta Sipil requires the disclosure of all relevant conflicts of interest so that they can be assessed and managed appropriately.

B. Types of Conflicts of Interest

Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Financial interests: Employment, consultancies, honoraria, stock ownership, patents, royalties, research funding, or other financial benefits related to the research.
  • Personal relationships: Family relationships, close friendships, personal disputes, or other relationships that may affect the objectivity of judgment.
  • Professional or academic interests: Research collaborations, rivalries, supervisory relationships, institutional affiliations, or professional competition involving the authors or their work.
  • Institutional interests: Relationships with institutions, organizations, or companies that may benefit from the publication or the research findings.
  • Editorial conflicts of interest: Situations in which an editor or reviewer has a relationship with the authors, the authors’ institutions, or the field of study that may compromise the objectivity of their assessment.

This list is not exhaustive. Any relationship that could reasonably be perceived to influence professional judgment must be disclosed.

C. Responsibilities of Authors

All authors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest when submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Talenta Sipil.

Authors are responsible for declaring any financial and non-financial interests related to the submitted work.

In addition, authors must:

  • Disclose all sources of funding and, where relevant, the role of sponsors in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation of results, manuscript preparation, and the decision to publish.
  • Ensure that all co-authors are aware of and agree with the conflicts of interest that have been disclosed.
  • Provide an accurate and complete conflict of interest statement in the manuscript and in the Jurnal Talenta Sipil submission system.
  • Notify the editorial team of any conflict of interest that arises or is identified after the manuscript has been submitted.

The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating the collection and submission of conflict of interest statements from all co-authors.

D. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest before accepting a peer review assignment from Jurnal Talenta Sipil.

Reviewers should decline an assignment if a conflict of interest exists that could compromise, or could reasonably be perceived to compromise, the objectivity of their assessment. Such situations may include recent research collaboration with the authors, close personal relationships, direct competition, or financial interests related to the research.

Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and must not use unpublished information obtained during the peer review process for personal, professional, or financial gain.

E. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors must make editorial decisions objectively and independently, based on the scientific quality, relevance, and originality of the manuscript and its compliance with the policies of Jurnal Talenta Sipil.

Editors must disclose any relevant conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling a manuscript if their objectivity may be compromised. In such cases, the manuscript must be reassigned to an independent editor or another suitably qualified member of the editorial team.

Editors must not use confidential information obtained through their editorial duties for personal gain, nor allow commercial, personal, or institutional interests to improperly influence publication decisions.

F. Disclosure Statement in Manuscripts

Authors must include a conflict of interest statement in their manuscript. The following statements may be used:

1. No Conflict of Interest:

“The authors declare that they have no known competing financial or non-financial interests that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this manuscript.”

2. Conflict of Interest Disclosed:

“The authors declare the following conflicts of interest: [describe the relevant financial or non-financial interests]. The role of the relevant organization or sponsor in conducting the research and preparing the manuscript is disclosed as follows: [provide a detailed explanation, where applicable].”

The statement must reflect the actual circumstances of the research. Authors must not use the no-conflict statement if a relevant conflict of interest exists.

G. Management of Conflicts of Interest

Jurnal Talenta Sipil will assess all disclosed conflicts of interest and determine whether additional measures are required to protect the integrity of the editorial process.

Depending on the circumstances, possible actions include:

  • Requesting additional information or clarification from the parties concerned.
  • Reassigning the manuscript to an independent editor or reviewer.
  • Requiring additional disclosure of conflicts of interest in the published article.
  • Implementing safeguards to ensure an independent and impartial peer review process.
  • Taking appropriate editorial action if a significant conflict of interest has been deliberately concealed or inaccurately reported.

All decisions will be made proportionately and in accordance with the publication ethics policies of Jurnal Talenta Sipil.

H. Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest

If a previously undisclosed conflict of interest is discovered after a manuscript has been submitted or published, Jurnal Talenta Sipil may request an explanation and supporting information from the authors or other relevant parties.

Based on the outcome of this assessment, Jurnal Talenta Sipil may require the publication of a correction, issue an appropriate editorial notice, reconsider its editorial decision, or take other action consistent with its policies on publication ethics and article corrections.

Serious concerns relating to suspected breaches of research or publication integrity will be handled in accordance with the procedures of Jurnal Talenta Sipil for addressing allegations of research misconduct.

I. Policy Compliance

All authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to comply with this policy and to disclose relevant conflicts of interest in a timely and transparent manner.

Jurnal Talenta Sipil handles conflicts of interest in accordance with its applicable publication ethics policies and the relevant guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
