Abstract

Paving block is a cement-based material produced through the compaction of a mixture of constituent materials, with or without the addition of additives. Paving block has a brittle characteristic, making it stronger in resisting compressive loads compared to tensile or flexural loads, which causes it to be susceptible to cracking. The addition of microfiber fibers can improve the mechanical properties and durability of Paving Block by reducing plastic shrinkage cracks through a micro-binding mechanism. This research employed an experimental method conducted at the Concrete Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, University of Palembang, for four months. The specimens were cube-shaped with dimensions of 5 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm, consisting of three specimens for each variation of microfiber fiber content. The results of the Paving Block compressive strength test show variations in the compressive strength values of each specimen. The PBM-0 specimen achieved a compressive strength of 103 kg/cm², while the PBM-1 specimen increased to 107 kg/cm². Furthermore, the PBM-2 specimen reached a compressive strength value of 111 kg/cm², followed by PBM-3 with the highest value of 114 kg/cm². However, the PBM-4 specimen showed a slight decrease in compressive strength to 110 kg/cm², and a further decrease occurred in PBM-5 with a compressive strength value of 97 kg/cm². Based on these results, it can be concluded that variations in the mixture composition of the specimens affect the compressive strength of Paving block.
