Pengaruh Beban Berlebih (Overload) terhadap Pengurangan Umur Rencana Perkerasan Jalan pada Ruas Jalan Simpang Teritep-Muntok

Abstract


Road infrastructure plays a vital role in supporting public mobility and economic activities. The Simpang Teritep–Muntok road section is a strategic route in West Bangka Regency that is heavily traversed by heavy vehicles, making it prone to accelerated damage due to overloading. This study aims to analyze the effect of overloading on the reduction of the pavement design life on that specific road section. The method used is a quantitative approach with calculations based on the 2024 Pavement Design Manual (Manual Desain Perkerasan/MDP 2024) utilizing Average Daily Traffic (ADT/LHR), Vehicle Damage Factor (VDF), Equivalent Single Axle Load (ESAL), and Cumulative ESAL (CESA) data. ADT is the average traffic volume passing through a specific point or cross-section of a road within a single day (24 hours). VDF is a coefficient that indicates the level of damage caused by a single or multiple axle load passes to the pavement structure, relative to the standard axle load. ESAL is a unit used to convert various types of different vehicle axle loads. Primary data were obtained through field surveys, while secondary data were sourced from the Public Works Department of Bina Marga, West Bangka. The results indicate that overloaded vehicles contribute to a significant increase in the VDF value, thereby increasing the cumulative ESAL value and accelerating structural pavement damage. This condition causes the road design life to decrease from its intended service life. In conclusion, overloading has a direct impact on the reduction of pavement life, highlighting the need for vehicle load monitoring and more optimal road maintenance planning.
