Abstract

Uncertainty in project duration caused by weather conditions, resource availability, and labor productivity remains a common challenge in the construction industry, requiring a scheduling method capable of minimizing the risk of delays. This study aims to analyze the critical path and the probability of project completion in the construction project of the Environmental Agency (DLH) Office Building of Samarinda City using the Precedence Diagram Method (PDM) and the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). The project under study has a building area of 450 m² with a planned implementation duration of 180 calendar days. The research data were obtained from project documents and questionnaires distributed to 30 respondents with experience in the construction sector. The analysis was conducted using Microsoft Project 2019 to develop the project network and identify activities on the critical path. The results of the PDM analysis indicated that 53 out of 205 total work items were critical activities, with an estimated minimum project completion duration of 158 days; these activities directly affect the overall project completion time. Subsequently, the PERT method was employed to estimate the optimistic, most likely, and pessimistic durations of each critical activity and to determine the probability of completing the project within the planned schedule. The results showed that the probability of completing the project within 180 calendar days was 81%, indicating a high level of confidence consistent with the project's actual on-time completion in the field. The PDM method provides information on activities within the project's critical path, while the PERT method provides information on the probability of project completion according to the planned schedule, so the results of this analysis can serve as a reference for evaluating and controlling construction project schedules. Future research is recommended to consider a time-cost trade-off analysis on critical activities to evaluate the potential efficiency gains if the project is completed ahead of the planned schedule.
