Abstract

The road infrastructure in Sayung District, Demak Regency, has experienced various forms of pavement deterioration in areas prone to tidal flooding, subject to heavy traffic loads, affected by insufficient drainage, and experiencing land subsidence. These factors affect road condition, road safety, and regional economic development, so the assessment of road condition is essential for road condition management and maintenance planning. This study was intended to identify road pavement distress, evaluate pavement condition using the PCI method, and to map the spatial distribution of road damage using a Geographic Information System (GIS) map with ArcGIS 10.8. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, primary data were collected through field surveys, GPS-based coordinate acquisition, and field documentation with secondary data from DEMNAS, road network, and administrative boundary maps. The results indicated nine road damage locations in the arterial and local roads, including alligator cracking, longitudinal cracking, edge cracking, potholes, depressions, raveling, etc. The PCI analysis of the nine observation units has an average value of 69.89, classified as good, representing the average condition of the surveyed road units rather than the entire road network in Sayung District; however, a few road segments require regular maintenance, overlay, or reconstruction. The GIS-based road damage map can show the magnitude of pavement deterioration and can be used to prioritize road maintenance and make decisions for the Government of Demak Regency.
